Additional iMac LCD orders from Apple have prompted iMac-manufacturer Quanta Computer to raise its forecast of computer-component shipments for the fourth quarter.

Quanta now expects shipments of 1.8 million units for notebooks and other products, due to additional orders from both Apple and Hewlett Packard, reports DigiTimes.

Boosted by seasonal demand, Quanta shipped 1.06 million notebooks and posted record high sales of $14.64 billion for November.

Total shipments in the first 11 months of 2002 reached 3.77 million units, and the company is expected to achieve the four-million-unit shipment mark by year-end.

The news provides welcome relief for the notebook manufacturer, as September reports noted a fall in profit margins by about 30 per cent for the first half of its business year.

This was due to the company cutting prices to secure orders.
