Apple's iMac has won high praise from an unlikely source, the US PC Magazine.

It praises the machine, naming it as Editor's Choice in the Innovative Products: Consumer Desktops category.

The new iMac was up against three Windows-compatible PCs, including Gateway's new all-in-one Profile 4. Gateway has released results which, it claims, show its PC is better than an iMac.

PC Magazine says: "The iMac isn't just about hip style – it's a bold reminder of Apple's ability to design simple-to-set-up computers, and to bundle essential and appealing applications. The iMac still turns heads."

The model wins four out of five stars, beating Gateway's Profile 4 XL, Gateway's 700XL and a model called the Voodoo F-550 Imola Orange 2200+.
