The Internet is no longer a primarily male club, with equal numbers of both sexes using it regularly.

New research among US Internet users conducted by the Pew Internet Project confirms this, and observes differences in the way the sexes use the technology.

Men value the Internet because it offers new ways to try new things, while women use the technology to build and maintain social connections.

"The study found that both men and women prize the net for the help it gives them to be more efficient and get many mundane tasks, such as paying bills, over with quickly," the BBC reports.
