Iomega is now shipping a Mac-compatible version of its external ZipCD USB CD-RW drive.

The PC model has been shipping since December 1999, but the company failed to produce any Mac-compatible software until now.

Macintosh users can now use the 4-x-4-x-6 drive to record, archive, share and distribute up to 650MB of data.

"With the rapid and continual growth of the CD-RW market and the expanding viability of USB connectivity, USB-compatible CD-RW drives are set to receive a lot of attention from both the PC and Macintosh markets," said Mary Craig, an analyst at Gartner Group/Dataquest.

The Iomega ZipCD drives are available directly from Iomega.
