Apple has released (and then removed) the iPod Software Updater 1.0.3 for its FireWire storage device/MP3 player.

Brazilian/Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish languages can now be used with the iPod. Apple says that MP3 sound quality has been improved with the new update. iPod names up to 255 characters are now also supported.

However, Apple quickly (but “temporarily”) removed the 2.1MB update “due to incompatibilities with ‘blue and white’ Power Macintosh G3 systems”. The company claims that a new version that addresses the issue will “be posted shortly”.

iPod Software Updater 1.0.3 requires an iPod, Mac OS 9.2.1 or later, or Mac OS X 10.1 or later; and a FireWire-equipped Mac.
