As well as reiterating his belief that Apple will launch a flash-based iPod, Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich has revealed that the rate of iPod adoption is faster than the Sony Walkman.

"iPods are being adopted faster than Sony Walkmans were back in the early 1980s," he claims.

Apple Insider reports that a graph issued to Merrill Lynch clients shows that after nearly 2.5 years, iPod shipments are approximately 1 million units ahead of the Walkman's pace after being on the market for the same period of time.

Sony sold over 300 million Walkmans during the 80s and 90s.
