Apple shipped its new MP3 Player, the iPod, on Saturday in the US.

This pre-empts the UK launch of the iPod at MacExpo next week. The Mac dedicated trade show runs from the November 22 to 24 and will be held at the Business Design Centre in Islington.

Philip Schiller, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said at the US launch: "iPod is going to change the way people listen to music. With its breakthrough design and ease of use, iPod may be one of the hottest gifts for every Mac user this holiday season."

iPod packs up to 1,000 CD-quality songs into a portable, 6.5-ounce design the size of a pack of cards.
