The iPod is the latest must-have accessory for teens in the US, it's official.

According to research by analysts Piper Jaffray, 16 per cent of US high-school students currently own iPods, and 24 per cent plan to buy one next year.

Piper Jaffray also found that the iPod is the number four item on the teen's Christmas list this year – behind clothes, money, and a car. Most significantly, "the iPod was not a answer option, it had to be written in as a response," noted the analyst house.
