Apple's new iPod nano has won a rave review from Wall Street Journal technology writer, Walt Mossberg.

He declares the new product to "combine beauty and function", and reveals himself to have been using it since before the product launch this week.

"I have been testing a nano for the past few days, and I am smitten. It's not only beautiful and incredibly thin, but I found it exceeds Apple's performance claims," he wrote.

He's so impressed he plans to buy one later this week, when he returns the review kit to Apple.

He relates the product's feature-set, including its colour-screen and photo capability, and points out that the device is more robust than hard drive-based iPods.

"In fact, during my tests, I dropped the nano several times, deliberately, from a height of about three feet, and it didn't miss a beat."
