The US National Retail Federation (NRF) has identified iPods and other digital music players as one of this year's top ten girl's toys.

Barbie tops the list - which is seen as a sign of consumer spending patterns during the critical Thanksgiving/Christmas buying period - Apple's iPod debuted in sixth place for girls. The boy's list doesn't include iPods or MP3 players.

The NRF 2005 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey results were determined through independent research across 7,128 consumers between November 2-9.

"Last Christmas, the gadgets were all the rage among adults. Now they are trickling down to the younger set," the Washington Post reports.
