Apple today announced its iTunes Music Store is offering over one million songs in the US.

This news means the company's US store is the first digital music distribution service to offer such a wide catalogue. The company claims to hold 70 per cent of the market.

Apple vice president of applications, Eddy Cue, said: "The iTunes Music Store offers the world's most extensive collection of downloadable music with over one million tracks available.

"With more than one million songs, over 600 independent labels and dozens of innovative features, iTunes is the ultimate destination for discovering and downloading music," he added.
