Apple is in prime position to exploit new opportunities opened up by technological advances in the consumer-electronics market, says national UK Sunday newspaper The Observer.

In his piece writer John Naughton said: "Apple's strategy to make it easy for users to create, manipulate and publish digital content is interesting, because despite the corporate world being suspicious of Apple Mac consumers are now in a position to generate or acquire lots of digital content.

"They want to do things with it without having to acquire a PhD in computer science."

He added: "It's desktop multimedia, and Steve Jobs thinks it's the future. Which explains why, at the moment, Apple is the only outfit doing it right."
