LaCie has improved its CD Network Box, introducing new file-sharing functions.

The device accommodates up to 90 CDs of information on its 60GB internal hard drive. When a data CD is inserted a disc image is automatically stored on the disk.

New features include the ability to share folders created on the internal drive – folders can be assigned different access privileges, and users work directly on stored files. CD images can be gathered to a master folder to create a CD library that can be shared simultaneously by all connected users.

Audio CD support has been improved – the Network Box automatically manages audio CDs, recognizing and automatically converting them into a digital-wave format; the resultant files can then be played back on any recent software-based sound player.

All new Network Boxes include these enhancements; an upgrade is available for owners of existing Boxes. The unit ships with cables and a one-year warranty. It costs £799.
