David Byrne and Brian Eno intend to release two tracks from their much-respected 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts' album - for free.

The tracks will be released under a Creative Commons license. The artists also intend to make the individual instrument tracks from the two songs available under the same licence.

They are inviting fans to: "Edit, remix, sample and mutilate these tracks however you like. Add them to your own song or create a new one."

An statement on the site reveals: "This is the first time complete and total access to original tracks with remix and sampling possibilities have been officially offered online."

The artists will also host pages on the website to which remixers can post their creative works based on the two tracks.

The move comes as Nonesuch Records and EMI announce the April 11 release of a new version of the album.
