Destineer's MacSoft unit has announced Tropico 2: Pirate Cove, the sequel to Tropico.

Tropico 2: Pirate Cove reaches US retail on May 19, with a European release scheduled for June.

Players are cast in the role of pirates, ruling a hidden pirate island. They must be crafty and deceptive to manage their island, protecting their stolen treasures from the French, English and Spanish anti-pirate fleets. They also get to attack passing merchant craft, seizing treasures and prisoners, who are then forced into slave labour.

Players get to construct and outfit massive galleons, equip and reward crews, levy taxes and more.

MacSoft said: "As your fame is established, history's most notorious pirates will be lured to your secret isle".

The game costs $29.99, UK pricing will be published closer to the title's launch in June.

This title was originally developed for the PC by Frog City, a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. The conversion to the Mac was done by Westlake Interactive.
