MacExpo will move to Olympia in 2005, show organisers XPO Events have confirmed.

Event organiser Bob Denton said the show's success and the wishes of exhibitors have driven the decision: "We love the Islington Business Design Centre", he said, "but many exhibitors feel that a move to Olympia would raise the international significance of the show, as that venue is internationally significant."

He added that a move to the West London exhibition space offers infrastructure and exhibition advantages Islington cannot match. "Here, we find that many exhibitors feel like the upstairs gallery is not as good a space to exhibit in, at Olympia the whole event takes place on one floor".

He promised a more themed approach next year. "We'll be able to combine different solutions into clear areas, si there'll be areas for digital video and digital music, for example", he explained. "We can add new zones," he added.

As Olympia is a larger space, he explained: "The same audience that we attract here will look quieter".

Denton was a central figure in organising London's former Apple Expo shows. A senior manager from within his organisation observed, "in a way, a move to Olympia shows a coming of age for MacExpo". Apple Expo took place at Olympia.

Next year's MacExpo will take place a month earlier, too. It runs at Olympia on October 27-29. "A lot of resellers have said that by now they are already doing as much business as they can by this time of year, and can't do more."

Resellers and manufacturers at the show reported strong business, with shortages of some products beginning early yesterday.
