Macromedia is taking legal action against Adobe, claiming ownership of technologies employed in Adobe Photoshop and GoLive.

The suit has been filed in a US district court, reports the Associated Press. It's alleged that Macromedia patented technology used in both applications in 1998.

Photoshop is a key product for Adobe, one of Macromedia's main business competitors. Macromedia is asking the court to prevent Adobe selling the software, and also seeking unspecified damages.

Neither party has commented at this time.
