Corel has announced that CorelDraw 8 Limited Edition for the Mac is available as a free download from now until March 10.

The company has also announced version 8.03 of CorelDraw and Photo-Paint, which is available now as a free update from Corel’s Web site.

By offering CorelDraw 8 LE as a free download, Corel aims to allow customers to preview the features of the graphic software, before releasing the next major upgrade - set to arrive in the summer. The Limited Edition is also available on a CD, together with a PDF manual and extra sample files, for $19.95.

Meanwhile, version 8.03 offers compatibility with Mac OS 9, improved performance when printing to PostScript printers, improved export to EPS, better support for non-PostScript printers, and improved memory management when importing large EPS files.

While Corel did not give details of the upcoming release of CorelDraw 9, a spokesman said that the upgrade would be “Carbonized” for Apple’s Mac OS X.
