Harman Multimedia will be shipping iSub speakers in the UK before the end of February, a company spokesman said.

The iSub is a six-inch, 20Watt, USB subwoofer and is custom designed to match Apple’s current iMac range. Announced last October, the iSub should ship in the US by the end of this month.

The speaker can produce frequencies as low as 44MHz, most personal computers can’t produce sound lower than 250MHz. iMacs can automatically recognize the speakers presence and divert signals accordingly.

The manufacturers explain that the delayed release was caused by a long wait for FCC approval, and some problems in the manufacturing process. The striking subwoofer offers a high-quality, rounded shape in clear, faultless moulded plastic. The design calls for moulding at a level which challenged existing plastic moulding technologies.
