Sonnet Technologies chose San Francisco to announce its Crescendo G3/PB for the PowerBook 1400. This processor upgrade opens the doors for PowerBook 1400 owners to enjoy G3 power for $399. It is set to ship in February.

The upgrade replaces the original 166Mhz 603e processor with a G3 processor running at 333Mhz that has 512K of backside cache.

The card uses a low-power copper IBM G3 processor, which can extend the PowerBook battery life by up to 25 per cent.

A release date for the UK is yet to be announced.
