Apple has hired Richard Kerris as director of developer strategies.

Until June 6, Kerris was director of Maya Technologies at Alias|Wavefront, leaving due to “philosophical differences”. For years, he was a driving-force behind Maya - with a Mac OS X port of the powerful 3D-animation application being his final achievement.

One in ten Kerris was one of ten Mac figures invited onstage by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during his Macworld Expo New York keynote, billed as ex-director of Maya Technologies. Kerris guided the audience through Maya's capabilities.

At Apple, Kerris will report to Ron Okamoto, VP of worldwide developer relations.

Macworld UK will be conducting an in-depth interview with Richard Kerris once he has settled in at Apple and can speak more about his new role.
