Microsoft has cancelled another promised feature within its upcoming Vista OS, a report claims.

The LA Times says that Microsoft had planned to ship a new file system, called WinFS, shortly after Vista ships. This will not now happen. It seems this will be integrated into a future product.

"WinFS was considered by investors to be the crucial feature that would spur upgrades to Vista," the report explains. The software changes the way certain kinds of data are categorised in order to make for smoother, swifter desktop searches for them.

WinFS will reportedly feature within the next version of Microsoft's SQL browser, the report said.
