Microsoft has released an update to its Internet Explorer Web browser for Mac OS X. This is expected to be one of the last Internet Explorer updates for the Mac, as the company has announced it is to drop development of the browser for the Mac and to roll all its stand-alone development for Windows into a forthcoming version of the operating system.
This latest version - version 5.2.3 - enhances browser compatibility for users who work on a network with secure authentication or with proxy servers. It also provides all the latest security and performance enhancements for Internet Explorer 5 for Mac OS X. Click here to download the update.
Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X is not compatible with OS 9 or earlier. It requires features that are available only in OS X. Mac OS 8.1 to 9 users can still download Internet Explorer 5.1.6 for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.
Microsoft estimates that the 6.7MB update will take approximately 35 minutes to download via a 56K modem.
