Macworld is pleased to announce the winners of its "Design a front cover" competition, in association with Minolta QMS.

In first place, and winning the excellent Minolta QMS magicolor 2350 colour laser-printer, is Colin Smith of Colin Smith Designs in Preston. His G4 Brains is a striking image that Macworld Editori-in-chief Simon Jary said would make a great front cover: "In an incredibly crowded marketplace, a magazine cover needs to attract the potential reader's eye in a flash. The image must be striking, and the cover lines enticing. G4 Brains includes contemporary references to the hit Matrix series, and is rather disturbing. We liked it a lot!"

In second place is George Alex Palmer of GAP Graphic Design, based in Oxford. His multi-layered design allows space for cover lines, and includes many Mac-related images.

In third place is London-based Marcello Muiesan of Madlymui. His witty Apple-product collage was a big hit with Macworld editors.

Muiesan and Palmer win Minolta Dimage Xi digital cameras.

Also applauded by Macworld editors: Huddersfield's Rob Chiu of The Ronin for his silvery Mac collage; and Jersey-based Nathan Cross of iD Design for his Power Mac Xs.
