Motorola is slicing its workforce by another 4,000 in a move to cut costs.
The company has axed 22,000 jobs since December, 2000 – 15 per cent of its workforce.
Motorola sectors affected by the cuts are Commercial Government and Industrial Solutions, Global Telecommunications Solutions, and Broadband Communications.
"Motorola is making tough but deliberate and strategic business decisions in order to remain competitive in the slowing economy," Edward Breen, president of Motorola's Networks Sector said.
He added: "Unfortunately, reductions have been necessary for us to improve financial performance, and this is something we will have to continually evaluate as we monitor market and economic conditions."
