Motorola will ship a 1GHz top-end PowerPC 7450 processor in August, industry insiders claim.

The sources also say that 800, 866 and 933MHz parts will be rolled out over the next four months.

Computer industry analysts say the rumoured Motorola chip releases point to the launch of Power Macs based on all four chips at July's Macworld Expo in New York.

The Register quotes sources as saying the 1GHz chip is designed to enable high clock speeds by "trading in" much of the PowerPC's RISC architecture.
