Acrux Software has announced Carbonized public beta versions of iBuild Lite and Pro 1.1.

iBuild is a multimedia-authoring package. Applications developed with this version will run on Mac OS X and earlier Apple operating systems up to and including Mac OS 8.6.

The developer says: "iBuild is a good alternative to both HyperCard and PowerPoint for interactive and human presentations." The application has features custom-built for creating educational courseware, computer training, tests and quizzes.

The application ships with a drag-&-drop library containing ready-made examples. iBuild "stacks" can be constructed from a selection of 40 objects. Many of these are interactive, or animated. No programming is required.

Once constructed, iBuild-made applications can share data with and send instructions to, other scriptable applications. The application supports QuickTime, text-to-speech, full-screen presentations and hypertext links.

iBuild Lite is freeware and can be used as a player to run iBuild stacks, and has some limited design features. iBuild Pro (normal price, $29; current special offer price, $19) is the single-user version of iBuild which can create stacks at any length. It will also build standalone applications that can be freely distributed for non-commercial purposes.

iBuild Developer ($199) is the commercial version of the application, and iBuild Site is for use in a networked Apple Share-compatible environment. iBuild site costs $199, $299 and $499 for 10, 20 and 30-user licences, respectively.
