SANcube800 has been launched by MicroNet – with the claim that it is the industry's first FireWire SAN (Storage Area Network).

The SANcube800 serverless storage network delivers "extremely fast connectivity and up to 1.5 terabytes online with the speed and fault tolerance of a hardware RAID controller," claims MicroNet.

The company also says this is the only SAN that allows users of Final Cut Pro to share resources on multiple different editing workstations simultaneously, without requiring SCSI or Fibre Channel cards and cables. This is because the SANcube800 features RAID 5 and hot-swappable drives for data integrity.

MicroNet says that the SANcube800 is "engineered for digital content designers who create and transfer large mission-critical video projects on Power Mac systems". The company claims that the SAN leverages "the fastest peripheral bus ever created to enhance workgroup productivity by delivering up to 70MB/sec transfer rates".

It is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of 2004. UK pricing is to be confirmed.
