procreate has updated its natural-media painting tool, Painter 7, introducing Wacom tablet support on Mac OS X, new tinting brushes and water-colour tutorials.

The update is available free to registered Painter 7 users. The Wacom tablet support is for the Intuos tablet line, and means Painter users can utilize Wacom's pressure-sensitive art tablets to create digital designs.

Tinting is a layer-based technique in which transparent brush-strokes are applied over existing greyscale artwork to add colour. The update also offers the first of twelve water-colour tutorials by author Cher Threinen-Pendarvis, author of the Painter Wow! series of manuals.

At Macworld Expo, Wacom announced that similar support for its products has been introduced in the following applications: Adobe Illustrator 10, Alias|Wavefront's Maya 3.5.1, Studio Artist 2.0, and Toon Boom Studio 1.0.1.

This has been made possible by Apple's introduction of Mac OS X 10.1, which containsthe constituent support required for application's vendors to make their applications work with Wacom's external input devices.
