Real Software will announce REALbasic 4.5 at Macworld Expo today.

REALbasic 4.5 offers improved Mac OS X support, and provides additional graphics and multimedia capabilities. It’s a programming environment that produces software for Mac OS X, older Mac operating systems, and Windows.

Geoff Perlman, Real Software's president and CEO, enthused: “REALbasic 4.5 is by far the best version ever, especially for Mac OS X users. We've combined what users have been requesting with the technology we know we need for the future.”

Feature set New features include: a new vector graphics engine; over eighty new QuickTime functions; a more flexible and powerful ListBox with resizable columns and drag-to-reorder rows; enhanced support for Mac OS X; and support for MySQL in the professional edition.

Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of developer relations, observed: “The increasing adoption of Mac OS X and the growing number of applications available for the platform presents a strong business proposition for developers.”

The application costs $99.95, upgrades from previous versions cost $29.95. Academic and volume discounts, and a variety of foreign-language versions are available.
