Synthetik Software will debut Studio Artist 3.0 at Macworld Expo San Francisco.

The new version is based on research into the nature of visual perception in the brain, and can construct an internal representation of source images to direct smart assisted painting and drawing. The new version "knows how to paint and draw", according to Synthetik.

The update features Interactive Paint Tools and Live Video Paint – combining dynamic user-configurable painting and drawing tools, with a complete image processing and video effects suite.

Added flexibilities allow artists to create art tools and processes, including Vectorizer Raster to Vector Synthesizer – allowing for customizable raster-to-vector regions effects, and Particle Paints, which simulates the behaviour of fluids.

Other new features include modular synthesized graphics plug-in architecture; live video processing; enhanced animation capabilities; expanded image processing, and paint synthesizer functionality.

The update is optimized for OS X, and includes eight hours of QuickTime tutorials and instructional guides.

Studio Artist 3.0 costs $379. Registered users can upgrade for $179. Orders can be placed at the Synthetik Web site.

Synthetik can be found at booth 2619 at Macworld Expo.
