The OS X application offers integrated font management, diagnostics, optimization and repair.
New features in this version include: search and filtering of fonts; user-defined startup font sets; a new setup wizard; improved user interface; WYSISWYG font menu and more.
The new search feature examines fonts, weights, italics, families, libraries, foundries and custom comments to display results instantly in response to a users criteria. Filtering can include activation date, shared date, and file format.
Users can create and maintain an unlimited number of startup sets. The interface redesign means library and font sets can be defined and activated using drag-&-drop.
Sets and libraries can be protected from accidental deletion, and standard environments can be set with lockable start up sets, and auto-activation and database perfromance speeds have been improved in this version.
Ease the font admin blues
FontAgent Pro 3 also addresses requests made by administrators trying to keep standard configurations across user systems. They can prevent users from adding, removing and renaming fonts, sets and libraries, and lock configuration settings for startup sets and preferences.
“FontAgent Pro’s rich feature set, extensive administrative controls, and speed of deployment have been made possible by our use of Cocoa, the most advanced desktop application framework available,” said Robert Leeds, Insider Software’s vice president of sales and marketing.
He stressed the value to developers and end users of Apple's self-made development suite, Xcode: “Creating Cocoa applications with Xcode is faster and more affordable than any other desktop solution available. It is powerful and elegant, and writing for it is as natural and intuitive as application development can get."
“We’re delighted with how the power, open development environment and core graphics capabilities of Mac OS X have been harnessed to address the needs of the creative community,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple vice president of worldwide developer relations.
System Requirements: FontAgent Pro 3 requires Mac OS X version 10.2 or later, 3MB of disk space and 7MB of memory. It costs $99.95 ($89.95 for download). An upgrade path also exists, check Insider Software's Web site for details.
