RealNetworks chose the NAB show to take the wraps off a beta version of its Real 10 Export plug-in for OS X.

The software lets content providers export their work in RealAudio 10 and RealVideo 10 formats directly from Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Xpress Pro, and other leading Mac video solutions, with support for more applications promised later this summer.

The beta version of the Real 10 Export Plug-in is available today for free download.

Real also released the final version of RealProducer Plus 10, its professional software for encoding and delivering content in RealAudio 10 with AAC, and RealVideo 10.

Dave Richards, RealNetworks vice president for business products and services, said: "We are pleased to extend Real 10 to the Mac creative community to provide Mac OS X users with the same great digital audio- and video-quality breakthroughs of Real's Real 10 solution using their favourite editing tools."

Senior VP Alan Citron of Movielink, one of the first major business-to-consumer companies to adopt the new technology, said: "When consumers watch a film from Movielink, whether a Hollywood blockbuster, independent, or classic film on their TV or their PC, they want the best quality – and RealVideo 10 delivers it."

RealAudio 10 supports AAC, 5:1 multichannel audio and integrates what Real calls a "lossless compression technology for archiving". The company claims its RealVideo 10 technology to be 30 per cent more efficient than the preceding iteration, "enabling DVD quality video at 1Mbps, and HDTV-quality video at approximately 5Mbps".
