America Online will soon release an upgrade to its Netscape Web browser.

The Netscape Store Web site had listed August 3 as the shipping date alongside information about pre-ordering copies, leading to speculation that the new version of the browser would be available on that date.

However, AOL is now suggesting that the software will not be ready quite as soon as that. AOL spokesman Andrew Weinstein said: "It was not a release date, but online users can order a CD up to that date to be sent by mail after that."

An actual release date has not been confirmed, but according to Weinstein it will be within the first two weeks of August.
