Griffin has released a free beta OS X driver for its iMate USB-to-ADB adaptor.

The adaptor links non-ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) Macs to ADB peripherals, including keyboards, mice, graphics tablets and a number of software dongles.

Griffin suggests that, when hot-pluggable support is implemented in OS X, it will be possible to hot-plug ADB equipment. The iMate supports Kensington's OS X drivers for MouseWorks.

But the company warns: "On the earlier 233MHz iMacs the latest version of iMac ROM was required to use the iMate driver-software."

The beta driver is available for download.
