Apple’s VP of applications marketing told the news service that the 3.3 million song downloads seen in the last week compares to a prior peak of 2.7 million downloads in a week.

The free downloads Apple is offering to celebrate the first year of its service have also appealed to consumers, who have downloaded over 500,000 free tracks.
