Apple has confirmed that the soon-to-ship Mac OS X will not support CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-ROM drives.

The CD-RW drives were introduced into selected models across Apple's desktop range at the Macworld Expos in San Francisco and Tokyo this year. Apple posted the information on the Apple Store. The company has also confirmed that its new operating system does not support the original PowerBook G3.

Mac OS X will support some third-party printers straight out of the box, including Epson Stylus Color 740, 760, 900 and 980 and HP printers such as 990c.
