With over 50 cool new features, the OS is already described as more than merely an "Internet Co-Pilot". Features include Voice recognition, "Keychain" security software, the ability to configure a computer for multiple users, encryption capacity and a much-expanded Sherlock search engine.

OS 9 also boasts a software update facility that lets you configure your Macintosh to check the Apple Secure Web site for software updates. When it finds an update it automatically downloads and installs it.

Presented during last night's broadcast by Phil Schiller, OS 9 is an incredibly powerful and Net-savvy operating system "for the rest of us." Priced at £69, recent purchasers of Apple machines are entitled to an upgrade for £14.95 (contact Apple for details).
