Palm Computing received the six millionth US patent on Friday. The patent was formally awarded to the company in a ceremony in Washington – in recognition of its HotSync technology.

Attending the ceremony was Palm co-founder Jeff Hawkins, who developed HotSync - which has been extended to allow Palm handheld computers to be synchronized with corporate databases.

Also at the ceremony was Palm president Alan Kessler, and officials from the Commerce Department and the Patent and Trademark Office.
