A virus affecting the Palm operating system has been identified, although it’s not considered an immediate threat.
Various security vendors are already offering patches and protection.
The virus, called PalmOS/Phage, is capable of spreading from one Palm application or device to another if infected files are shared via infrared beaming or installed via a docking station, according to reports.
If a Palm file is infected, the screen will briefly appear blank. The virus then appears to leave without doing any harm. The virus then seeks to infect all other programs in the system.
To restore infected devices, users are urged to set all HotSync conduits to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" and synchronize with the Palm desktop.
