Two Apple products are finalists in US PC Magazine's 19th annual Awards for Technical Excellence.

The iMac has been short-listed for the Desktop PC category, while the iPod is a finalist in the Mobile Devices category.

The awards recognize "individuals and products that have advanced the state of technology and set new standards for technical innovation in 2002", according to the magazine.

Competition There are 11 different award categories and more than 30 finalists.

Award winners will be announced on November 18, at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The iPod celebrated its first birthday two weeks ago, and Dell has announced it will sell PC versions of the MP3 player in its US stores.

Three capacities (5, 10, and 20GB) of the product are available, with prices starting at £259.
