Four European photographers are hosting simultaneous exhibitions, in Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the UK, harnessing the Internet as a virtual venue.

Visitors to each of the exhibition sites can view the work exhibited at the other three sites over the Internet. The artists are using 3Coms’ HomeConnect PC Digital WebCam and Apples’ iMac’s to achieve this.

The artists collective, called ‘Closer’, includes the Swiss Mark Moser, Tom Davies of the UK, Regina Schmidt from Germany and Spain’s Fernando Sancho. Each artist has developed a body of work focused on cultural interests and personal identity.

"Our overall objective is to make contemporary art available to the widest possible audience, and digital technology is helping us achieve that goal," said Kevin Liggett, the show organizer and head of Rochester school of photography.

Examples of Closers’ work can be seen at www.closer.org, where video-streamed clips of the exhibition are also available.
