UK high-street iPod product retailer popXpress has begun offering the Koyono BlackCoat for sale.

These coats integrate flexible textile-based iPod control systems and secret pockets in which to store the music player, and were first revealed at Macworld Expo, San Francisco in January.

popXpress is offering the complete range of coats (Work, Sport, and Surf) for sale at its shops on the high street and online.

They use ElekTex, a smart-fabric technology from Eleksen Group that has been integrated into the coats as iPod control pads. Each of the four new jackets includes advanced water protection and pocketing for commuting or travel.

ElekTex is a unique five-layer laminate of electrically conductive materials that transforms fabric into an electronic touchpad. It's a vast improvement over the hard touchpads and other solutions used in wearable computing interfaces in the past. The smart fabric is lightweight, flexible and washable.

Jonathan Cole MD of popXpress said: "We think the Eleksen fabric control technology opens up a vast array of possibilities. We consider ElekTex smart fabrics to be the next zipper."

BlackCoat Surf is a short-sleeved summer version of the iPod coat and costs £129. BlackCoat Sport is an overcoat that's both light and easy to pack away in a bag; it costs £179. BlackCoat Work is a hybrid between the classic jean jacket and a sport coat and is made from lightweight stretch cotton with water-repellent technology. It costs £149. The BlackCoat Work Premiere Edition is the same cut as a BlackCoat Work but offers a higher degree of water protection.

Apple has also confirmed that over 700 iPod products now available carry the 'Made for iPod' logo.
