Apple’s launch of iTunes for Windows attracted over one million hits on the company’s Web site, reports claim.

According to Nielsen//NetRatings, traffic to the Apple Product Info & Support channel – which provides access to download the iTunes application – surged.

Those accessing the site from work accounted for more than one million unique visitors. This was 112 per cent more than the previous week, which saw 479,000 unique visitors.

Domestic traffic to the channel accounted for 941,000 unique visitors – 37 per cent higher than the previous week's 686,000 visitors.

Nielsen//NetRatings senior Internet analyst Greg Bloom said: “The much-anticipated launch of the Windows version of iTunes provides music fans with a great new option for downloading music.

“File sharing in the US is declining and iTunes is a great example of the type of safe, high-quality environment that consumers will flock to continuously.”
