Apple's QuickTime Live! conference program kicks off today (February 12) with a keynote speech from Apple's senior vice president of product marketing Phil Schiller.

Wednesday, February 13 sees another keynote speech, this time from Frank Casanova, Apple's director of QuickTime product marketing. He will moderate a session called "Why QuickTime?".

QuickTime Live! is Apple's annual event for QuickTime developers and content publishers. Last week, Apple released figures showing that QuickTime downloads had exceeded those of RealNetwork's multimedia solutions for the first time - eighty million QuickTime downloads in all.

As noted, this year's QuickTime Live! sessions include "a super-secret workshop" to be announced at the event. This has caused some speculation that Apple could introduce a new version of QuickTime containing support for new standards, such as MPEG-4.
