MacBook Pro users should soon be able to buy expansion products designed to fit the new ExpressCard 34 slot in Apple's pro portables.

A listing of a range of new ExpressCard products has appeared on an industry standard website.

Listed products - some of which are Mac-compatible - include interface modules such as FirmTek's ATA ExpressCard Adaptor, memory card readers, television tuners, and SmartCard readers.

Apple's move to the new expansion architecture generated some comment when it was revealed, as suitable peripherals that use the standard hadn't yet reached market when the MacBook Pro was introduced.

However, speaking at the London briefing, Apple representatives promised that devices using the standard were in development. "We know that work is going on behind the scenes," a representative said.
