Apple's newly launched Web browser Safari has been downloaded 300,000 times in the past 24 hours - breaking the previous one-day download record of 100,000 held by iTunes

The revelation was made by Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller.

"A total of 20 per cent of all Mac downloads from in the last 24 hours came from a Safari browser," Schiller said.

In his Macworld Expo keynote on Tuesday, Jobs claimed Safari was up to three times faster than Internet Explorer.
