Wetpaint is a new free service that facilitates the design, creation and hosting of social-networking websites.

It offers a site creation setup process in three steps. Sites can combine the best elements of blogs, wikis and social networking, as sites created with the service can be set up to be edited by anyone. This makes them ideal for specific interest groups, the company says.

Company co-founder Jason Reindorp points out that blogs tend to be monologues, while forums become unwieldy and hard to search through. "Our service lets people create a real dialogue," he points out.

As an example, the service has already been used to create sites for the World Cup and for Celtic FC fans.

Safari isn't yet supported by the service, though Firefox on a Mac is supported.
