New freely available software lets pro photographers using Aperture spread their huge image libraries across multiple hard drives.

The software is required because by default, Aperture confines its internal library to a single drive, which quickly gets filled-up with large image files. has released a simple, free application that lets users span their library across multiple drives. The software reconfigures your Aperture library so that it is stored across several currently-mounted volumes. Users can undo this change from within Aperture at a later date if they wish.

The Aperture Library Spanner is available for free download.
