Sun Microsystems is planning a Mac version of its productivity suite Star Office, though no schedule has been announced.

According to a MacCentral story, the company is assessing the requirements before scheduling the Mac port of the software, which includes word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, graphics, Web publishing, scheduling, database, presentation and management components.

StarOffice is currently available for Linux, Windows 96/98/NT, Solaris and OS/2. It can be downloaded from the Web free of charge, and customers then just pay for the services and support they need. Sun also plans to make the software accessible to any browser-enabled networked device through Internet portals.
